Kumahei Umeshu
熊平 梅酒
Kumahei is a premium umeshu made from 100% Kishu Nanko plums grown on the producer’s own orchard, which are handpicked.
Only three ingredients — plums, sugar, and brewing alcohol — are matured for 9 months without dilution with water or additives.
It delivers a rich, ripe plum aroma with gentle sweetness, refreshing acidity, and a smooth, clean finish that highlights the pure character of Japan’s most prized plum variety.
The plums come from a region where orchards, farmers, processors, and forestry have evolved together over 400 years, forming a community-driven agricultural system that has shaped how plums are grown and sustained in the region.

How it’s made
Kumahei uses estate-grown Kishu Nanko plums, which are hand-picked one by one while still firm and unripe, then carefully ripened in a cool, controlled environment until they reach peak maturity—when their aroma and flavour are at their peak.
Once perfectly ripened, the plums are matured with sugar and brewing alcohol. It is aged for nine months, which is longer than the standard Umeshu, allowing the plum extract and flavour to slowly infuse into the alcohol.
Through this patient, additive-free approach, Kumahei captures the deep extract and lush fragrance of premium Kishu Nanko plums.
Authenticity Certification
GI Wakayama Umeshu
Kumahei is certified as GI Wakayama Umeshu, the first liqueur product in Japan to receive this status.
This certification confirms that it is made in Wakayama using local plums and in accordance with strict regional standards for origin, production method, and quality.
The GI mark serves as a sign of authentic provenance and recognised regional craftsmanship.

Kishu Nanko Plum
Kishu Nanko plum is the signature plum variety of Minabe, a region where plum cultivation has been established since the Edo period (1603–1868).
Valued for its thin skin, small stone, and abundant, tender flesh, it is widely regarded as one of Japan’s finest plum varieties.
Strict cultivation and selection standards ensure a level of quality that is difficult to replicate outside the region.
Inoue Foods focuses on Kishu Nanko plum, continuing the local cultivation traditions that have shaped Minabe’s plum production over generations.
